Day Trip : Bear Lake

Groupie

Farmers MarketI had been craving a raspberry milkshake for a good two weeks, and the best place to get them is in Bear Lake. So after some quick planning my mother, younger sister, and I hopped in the car and made a day trip out there for a shake. Of course you cannot go to or from Bear Lake without stopping at the delicous Maddox Drive-in, they have some seriously good burgers! So after loading up on fries and burgers, we continued on our adventure, only to be distracted as we were pulling out of the parking lot by a Farmers Market across the street. Of course we had to stop.

Giant PeppersI can't say I've never seen such good looking fruits and vegetables, because the Farmers Market at Granville in Vancouver was AMAZING!!! This one was cute and fun, but not quite as impressive. We did find some cool stuff. They had GIANT peppers, the pictures don't do the peppers justice, they were huge! They had all kinds of fruits and vegetables there. My favorite find was the colorful corn. You can't see it very well in the picture but it was a beautiful deep red, the perfect Fall red. I was amazed, I have never seen such pretty corn.

Colorful Corn See? Told you it's hard to see in the picture, but trust me, it was pretty. We wandered around there for a while, marveling at the giant pieces of food, and despite having just eaten a ridiculous amount of food across the street, we bought some food to snack on during our drive. And the adventure conitnued. The nice thing about just going on a day trip and not really caring about having to be somewhere, was that we could do whatever we wanted, stop where ever we wanted and not have to rush. Which was good since we got distracted again.

Boutique On our way out of Brigham City we spotted this brightly colored little shop, that just looked so fun and welcoming. A car full of women cannot spot a bright little boutique and simply drive past it, so not even ten minutes after our last distraction, we stopped again to go exploring this fun little shop. The Lady in the shop (far left in the picture) was the nicest woman, and had the cutest bags and homemade accessories and beauty products. We spent a good half hour looking through everything and chatting with our new friend. I got amazing lemon flavored, homemade chapstick (which lasted me abuot a month before I lost it...oh well guess I'll have to take another road trip to get a new one) and then we were on our way.

Donkey Pen I love the small town country, it's so fun and just has a calming effect. I am not a city girl. My oldest sister loves the big city, would live in New York if she could, and to me that sounds so stressful. My ideal is having a nice house on a good sized piece of land, space between the houses so your neighbors aren't right on top you of, room to run and play, and space for animals. To her that souns miserable. Polar opposites, but we love eachother. We took the scenic route on our way to Logan, going through Honeyville and a few other itty bittly little towns and we came across a yard full of Donkeys! So we stopped.

Petting Donkies We didn't actually stop, we drove past, saw the donkey's, flipped around and drove back so we could stop and pet them. Cute little animals, they came right up to the fence and chilled while we cooed and pet each of them. We then decided we needed to get some donkey's of our own since they were so sweet and cute.

We need more days like this one. We finally made it to Garden City and were able to see the crips blue waters of Bear lake. Had it been summer and not mid October, it would have been fun to go swimming, but as nice as the weather was for our trip, we'll have to go back another time for a swim. I am happy to say that I finally got my raspberry milkshake, satidfying a weeks worth of cravings. It was a magical moment.

Minion Hay BaleWe wandered and drove around Garden city, going into the few shops that were open, while mom shared stories about speding her summers in Garden City picking raspberries. We also found this amazing giant minion haybale! We decided to finally head home to avoid having to drive through the canyon in the dark, and to try and be home by a reasonable hour. Once we made it through the canyon though we found this cute little bakery in Logan, so being hungry we stopped off and got some fresh bread and discovered this amazing Black Current Jam, so we bought a few bottles to take home with us. The Jam was delicous by the way, but it was an odd consistency, not solid enough to really be jam, it was a bit too runny, but it was really thick, so we decided to use it as syrup on pancakes, and even mixing some sprite to mimic the Ribena Blackcurrant Concentrate. All in all it was a great adventure.
