Weekend Getaway : Vancouver BC

Tim Hortons

Granville MarketI love to travel, I haven't been able to travel as much in the past years, but my brother headed out to Vancouver for an audition he was doing. Not being old enough to rent a car, my mom went with him. I decided to join them over the weekend so Friday after work I hopped on a plane and flew to Canada. I've been to Canada before, Served a 19 month mission there for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, so it's got a special place in my heart, but I have never been to Vancouver so this was a fun experience. Vancouver was beautiful! Trees everywhere, nice spring weather (when I left Salt Lake City it was snowing) it was amazing. Joy of all joys I got to get my Tim Horton's fix!

farmers market One of my favorite things about our trip was going to the Granville Market, it was this fun little market surrounded by docks, and under one of the bridges. It had all kinds of fun and quirky little shops, but my favorite was the giant farmers market, which had some of the best looking fruit I have seen. It also had these fun little boutique type kiosks with all kinds of hand made trinkets. We spent hours walking around the market and still didn't get a chance to see everything.

TreesSo the entire reason we were in Vancouver is because my little brother had been training in the Silks and the Lyra, doing acrobats. He'd submitted an audition tape for a college and gotten accepted to come and audition, which was quite an impressive feat in and of itself seeing as they only accepted 12 people to audition. The audition was in Vancouver, so they headed up on a Wednesday, and I followed a few days later. One thing I noticed was all the tree's that they had in the parking lot's. It seemed like instead of parking lines, they had tree's as the spacers between parking spots. Thought it was kinda cool, but also wondered how many times the tree's had been hit when people were trying to park.

Market placeI love good food, and trying foods from different places. That is one of the things I loved when I was in Toronto, all the many different kinds of cultural food. So I was thrilled when we were wandering around the Market and there was so many different kinds of food it was amazing! All of it looked so fresh and delicious. Had we had more time, and had I had more money...a lot more, I would have tried some of everything. The raspberries were quite impressive. They were the biggest raspberries I have ever seen, 2 of them could fill up the entire palm of your hand. They were fantastic, so we bought a little bucket of berries and munched on them the rest of the day.

Three of UsOf course being in Canada we had to enjoy the local cousine as well, so had Poutine several times, at least Mom and I had it, Curt was not the biggest fan. He was however very fond of the Kinder eggs that we got at Walmart (he bought 30 kinder eggs to bring home with him, literally had a carry-on bag full of them). Unfortunatly the trip came to an end and we had to pack up and go home, which means I no longer get to have poutine, or Tim Horton's, which means I need to plan another trip to Canada.
