Zoo Day
I wanted to go to the Zoo, lucky for me my younger sister was game for a zoo day as well. And for being about mid october it was surprisingly warm. We decided to get a fairly early start and made it there by about 9 a.m., which was nice for several reasons.
One of the reasons it's nice to go to the zoo early in the morning, it's not very crowded. I don't mind crowds, they can be fun, but they can also be really annoying. I guess it helped that we chose to go in the morning on a weekday, instead of the weekend...that may have had something to do with it not being so crowded, but because of how few people there were we got to just chill and take our time, not having to wait or jostle our way up to see the animals. I would definitely recommend early morning zoo trips for that reason alone. Also weekday trips.
Another Benefit of going early in the morning, on a nice cool day, during the week, is that the animals are a bit more active, at least I think they are. I don't really go to the zoo often enough to really know how active or in-active they are during the day, but I still think they were more active than if it were noon on a hot summer day. We also discovered this fun little mode on my camera, where you can take a picture of something, like the lion, while taking a picture of you at the same time. So we had some fun when we discovered that.
Lions and Tiger and Bears! We got to see all of them. I'm always amazed at just how huge these animals really are. You see these animals in pictures and movies all the time, but when you get a chance to see them...I can't say up close and in person, since getting up close and personal with them is not really recommened, but as the saying goes, any zoo is a petting zoo if you're brave enough...anyway, it's impressive to be reminded of just how mammoth thier teeth, claw's, and paw's really are.
The Gorilla's and Orangutan's were a lot of fun as well. It was empty when we got to the chip house, which was really nice, because we got to sit down on the ledge by the window and one of the Orangutan's climbed up to the window and sat by us for a while. The Gorilla's were another impressive sight to behold. Again, that is an animal I'm happy to see from a distance, as incredible as the youtube video's are where people have forged a relationship with these animals, they are big and strong and kinda scary...Planet of The Apes, case and point. All in all it was a good day to go to the Zoo.
